As you leisurely walk along the banks of the Sumida river on a early morning Hanami day, you can get lost simply by the sheer beauty of the full blown Sakura trees. The lone boat cruising along slowly along the river. Though Japan is not short of natural beauty the serenity and the beauty of Sumida banks on this day are breathtaking. Early morning I saw a few young guys selecting prime spots under particular trees and arranging the blue sheet a nice way of reserving space for the party which is to begin in a couple of hours. At around 10am we see families (kids, young, old and elderly) trooping with big smiles on their faces. With the customary greetings done, no time is lost for popping the beer cans and the unavoidable Sake. With the irresistible Japanese cuisine in display, it is impossible to keep a tab on the calories. Soon in an hours time with the food, sake and beer in stomachs the entire area becomes transformed into a big concert with people singing and children running. Even pets are a part of the party.
Though every year it is the same party with the same members it has become a ritual and we all look forward to this. Hanami, also coincides with the beginning of the new fiscal and scholastic year. For students it is the time to look ahead to a new academic year whereas for the career conscious it is the time to reflect on the previous year and to start afresh for a new challenge.
In the last year, I pretty much coasted along in my career. A little change of gears in my business attitude did take place. It was a sign for me to learn and enjoy my work. Last year has been a steep learning curve for me vis-a-vis my approach towards my life and my career.
It has been a tough year. I have worked hard and in some cases have succeeded immensely whereas at times it has been frustrating. I think everybody goes through such phases. It is a part and parcel of people who set high standards for themselves. I have been fighting through it and will continue to do so.
This is the way I have always lived my life and would love to continue living it. I have always worked to prove to myself more than anyone else.
Wish at the next Hanami I write a blog on a new milestone reached.
