Automobiles and Japan

Automobiles and Japan

I
t is Saturday (12-Apr-2008), and it has been busy than ever. At 6 in the morning, I am rushing off to Tochigi from Tokyo to meet our new client (an Automobile Dealership Company) who is attending an Automobile auction at Tochigi. He wants me to understand his business before I start his work.
In spite of missing a train and once boarding a wrong one, I finally make it to the auction center. I meet our client a gentleman by the name Mr. Gambhir. He shows me around the place; walking amidst the massive lot of Heavy Vehicles (about 8,000 of them), I see many people of different nationalities, who have come here specifically to buy vehicles and export them to their countries. A lot of business (nearly 90% of it is International) is done at this auction and it seems every time this auction grows in size.

Today Gambhir san introduced me to a few other Automobile dealers all of them of different nationalities. Each one had come here to buy something different and each had his own idea about the automobiles on display. At first glance, these guys looked very ordinary folk but on conversing, I found that they were very well in touch with the global financial crisis, the US Dollar meltdown etc. and of course the affect of all these factors on the Global Auto Market.

All said and done, I was overwhelmed by the amazing display of automobiles and the size of business that some of the persons were doing. The day ended at 9pm and even standing and talking to people in the rain did not feel like work at all. I really had a fun time in the midst of Automobiles and that too in Japan.

Needless to say I left the center without any doubts about Japan and automobiles being synonymous.
