Entrepreneur with A Heart
It all starts with one person Mr. Gambhir (now known as Gambhir san). I met him on a flight from KL to Tokyo. Being as talkative as I am, we both hit off well in the airplane itself.
Gambhir san it seems landed in Tokyo, 10 years back as a Hotel Management Trainee to work as an intern in one of the leading 5 Star International hotel chains. Though professionally trained in Hotel Management, his passion was automobiles.
His passion coupled with he being in the land of Toyota, I feel forced him to leave his good job at the hotel and he started dealing in Cars, Retrofitting them and selling them in the local markets and also exporting them to other countries. He quickly moved up to the next level of Heavy Vehicles and is now converting trucks and dumps into Cranes and Construction Equipment. This business is done in his own sprawling workshops in Ibaraki with a trained work force and state of the art equipments.
To achieve this in a span of 8 years is an awe inspiring story. In order to achieve this, Gambhir san had to do all sorts of odd jobs to stay on course for achieving his dream which also included a short stint at a local poultry farm.
I meet a lot of people in the course of my work. Most of them inspire me with their professional excellence and achievements. But in case of Gambhir san, I was not only impressed by his professional achievement but I was also impressed by what he was giving back to society. I was touched by how deeply he feels for the society and the fellow Indians whom he left behind in his hometown of Nainital in India. How much he intends to change their lives for the better especially the women.
Frustrated by the absence of political will and the lack of social services infrastructure, he decided to take matters in his own hand and has recently started a Teachers Training College for women. This will help in educating women to become good school teachers which will not only help the next generation but will also empower these women to a better life.
It is people like Gambhir san who make me feel that even I can do something.
I do not know What that something is ???
But the more I come in touch with people like Gambhir san, I think I will be closer to that answer.
