Unwinding In Tokyo

fountainhead

I
am not a guy who is into pubbing and partying but like everybody else, I too need to rest and unwind myself. Especially after a hard week like the last one I had to relax.
Being brought up in natural surroundings in a house surrounded by large trees, I love nature. Tokyo is really not a green city, however it does have a sprinkling of gardens and parks.I had visited some in the past but never had I visited a Tokyo garden with a sole purpose of resting and unwinding.

forestpathIt was Sunday morning as usual in my local gym and I was talking to Tanaka san an elderly Japanese gentleman who in his conversations always takes you to another time when according to him Tokyo and Japan in general was a better place when work, patriotism, love etc. were a passion with the citizens. I always hear what he has to say and I never contradict his opinions. On this Sunday, I requested him to suggest me a place where I can spend a quite sometime relaxing in nature.

Chidorigafuchi, JapanOn his suggestion, I rode to a place called Kita no Maru Park. This park is right in the center of Tokyo and the greenery in it is really unbelievable. I did shoot a few photos which I would like to share with all. A few of them are displayed here. The garden is made up of well kept paths amidst forestry. The garden is on a hill with a large pond at the bottom with a picturesque boat house lined with colorful boats. A few people rowing in the boats and enjoying the scenery around was a sight to watch. The pond is flanked across a busy road by the Imperial Palace and sight of this from the thick forest above is breathtaking.

sakuraboatBeing the last days of Sakura (Cherry Blossom), there were a few people strolling down the paths lined with Sakura trees and enjoying the last days of this year`s Sakura. Everything around here is so quite that time stands still and you forget that there is a big metropolis called Tokyo just out of the park gates. I spent a few hours in this cradle of nature walking, reading on the benches and appreciating the nature and its stillness. Yes it was today that I found a place in Tokyo where I could be in the moment and relive myself of the worries that haunt everybody and unwind to have a positive look from tomorrow (Monday).

Well it was time to get back to work tomorrow so I had to go back home and complete the weekend rituals of ironing, shopping etc. for the next week. Out of the park and I was back in the hustle bustle of Tokyo. As I rode slowly along the packed streets, I started to enjoy the drama that unfolded before me and I too became a part of the excitement called Tokyo.
