A few months ago, I felt exhausted or was it that I reached a point where either My mind, body or the spirit within said ENOUGH. I needed serenity. I think everybody of us has been to this point where a person just want`s to stop everything including working, eating, listening.... A point where even a great piece of music feels like noise. Well I was there. It got to a point where I needed to release myself.
I pondered on many things that could be done. I started regular exercises with photography as a serious hobby. To tell you a fact, even after 6 months, I have managed to stick to these and I feel great. When I am doing either of the above, I feel that I am taking care of myself. I have learnt to listen to my body the way you would listen to your near and dear ones.
The environment and the lifestyles make it difficult to find the time and the committed effort to do something for ourselves. Finally it comes down that additionally to our work and career, we should have some interest, some hobby which will make us laugh and admire ourselves and pat ourselves. The bottom line is that we need a life that has real good health, good friends, good interests and of course a calm and balanced brain.
It was only in the last couple of months I understood the meaning of a well - rounded life. Since I stepped out into the professional world, I was consumed with my job and work. Don't mistake me: you should always focus on your career so that you can be somebody and build a niche for yourself in this world. I also did the same and even today my work is a priority. But it isn`t my only priority. A little change in my thoughts / attitude may have something to do with I about to reach 50 and realizing that I have missed a lot till now.
I love the work that I am doing presently. I also love the people I work with. The work is challenging, stressful, it takes a lot of my time, sometimes it deprives me of my sleep etc... but I think that these are the aspects which make the job all the more interesting. But now for the last couple of months, I also have a life outside of my work. My exercises, my photography sessions have also become my priority. This is giving a better balance on myself and a serene feeling which I suppose is a difficult concoction isn`t it?.
To be honest, I did not have the patience to pamper myself. However, now I have discovered that time you take for yourself is invaluable. It not only gives you a better feeling but your performance in your professional life also improves and you start becoming more realistic, more caring toward others.
As a good business person, I have a drive for success, I am concerned about the company bottom line, sales figures etc... but as a leader of the team I would also like to spread the positive attitude that accompanies a person with a well - rounded life.
I am a firm believer in the principle that the better you look after your body the sharper your mind gets and the more serene is your soul. It is something like "What you eat and drink decides what you think!!" When you treat your body it makes you a better person not only for yourself but also for the people you work with. Finally nobody likes to be around an emotionally imbalanced, irritable and negative person.
So finally folks relax, reduce the pace of life Balance your mind so that your soul is calm and happy.
Cheers!!!
